Abstract
How to Buy a Computer
Tech-Bites
How to buy the PERFECT computer for your needs while saving Time, Money
& Frustration in the process!
Learn what sales people will never tell you when shopping for your
perfect computer!
Click "Play" to watch a Special Message from Garrett
There are so many choices available to the consumer today that most
people simply don't know what to buy!
Much like the car market, finding the right computer can be like
finding a needle in a haystack... UNLESS you know what you are looking
for.
And THAT is why I produced this video.
See, I'm the local tech geek in my area and I've been building my own
computers for years. But even I have decided that buying a
pre-assembled computer is more convenient and trouble-free than using
the "Frankenstein" that I built myself.
The problem is, most computers and computer manufacturers STINK!
Not only that, but sales people are getting more confident and not more
knowlegable. Their information cannot be trusted, but they will try to
convince you otherwise.
Here's a quick story about my last purchase... don't let this happen to
you!
Although I had typically built my own computers, I simply
did not want to take on the massive project that was a home-built
laptop.
So I looked around online and chose what I felt was a perfect
computer for what I needed.
I went to the store (I won't embarrass them here by naming them)
and, unfortunately, the laptop I wanted was not available. So I
decided to come back another time.
Then a salesperson got a hold of me... I explained to them that they
did not have what I was looking for. Somehow, he managed to convince
me that one of their computers would serve me just as well and that
it was only on sale today!
And, of course, this was the "last one."
I actually purchased the laptop and walked out the store with it!
Not only was it NOT a good deal, but to this day, I usually feel
like throwing that computer out the window! It was not what I
needed!
Moral of the story: Know what you want and don't depend on the
commision-driven salesman to lead you to the right computer!
Today this computer is worth very little and I can't even get rid of
it! I didn't buy it at the correct time. Buying PC's, especially, at
the wrong time is a huge mistake.
Below is a computer depreciation graph to help illustrate when you
should buy a particular computer model. Like cars, the value drops
very quickly after the initial market entry.
This is why, except in the case of Apple computers, I recommend to
buy models that have been on the market for a few months already and
not one that is brand new or on it's way out.
Most of my friends actually take my advice though, unlike me, and are
much better off because of it.
And after ordering computers online, buying refurbished machines, and
making purchases at local stores... I've finally decided to deliver my
experience and information in video form.
Inside the video, I will be covering the following topics:
How to Buy a Computer
* Definitions - a Hard Drive is not a computer... if you walk into a
tech store not knowing what the primary parts are called, and what
they are for, you're asking to be completEly "taken" by the sales
folks.
* User Types - In my experience, most people fall into four major
user types that determine the sort of computer that they will need.
Understanding what kind of computer user you are will be one of the
most important factors to buying the right computer.
* PC vs Mac - If there is one thing that is confusing more people
than anything, it's the PC vs Mac debate. Humorous commercials,
fierce loyalists, and varying pricepoints make this a confusing
subject for most users. I will give you the information you need to
know to make the decision between the two.
* Buy Online or Local? - Is buying locally really safer? Is buying
online really cheaper? We'll tackle these questions and more in the
video.
My video is close to 60 minutes in length and moves at a comfortable
pace that is perfect for those who are interested in mastering the
"fundamentals" of buying a new computer!
I de-mystify the computer jargon you need to know and stay out of the
complicated and constantly changing technical lingo which you do not
need to know when buying your computer.
No, instead we will be focussing on the things that don't change: CPU,
RAM, Hard Drive, and Software. Once you understand these from a buyer's
perspective, I promise you that you will know exactly which computer to
buy!
In addition to this informative video, I have written several companion
bonus guides to be sure you have all the resources you need
* After Market Peripheral Guide - If there is anything more
confusing than computers, it's the accessories you can buy with
them! This guide will look at the 3 primary peripherals you will
need to consider: Audio, Networking, and Printing.
* 10 Things Every Person Should Know Before Buying a
Computer - this is not just a rehash of the video. I got the 10
most important things you MUST know before you buy your new
computer!
* The Field Survival Guide - is a stripped down version of
the "10 Things" formatted to fit on one piece of paper so that you
can take it with you to the store. A kind of "cheat sheet" to keep
you ahead of the sales people.
* Notes - A companion sheet to the video that contains
important links and information to augment the information in the
video.
* Computer Recommendations - If you would rather just take my word
for it, I have put together a recommendation sheet that links to
actual computers you can buy for each specific user type through
Amazon. This guide alone may be worth every penny you spend on
my package!
* Software - I'll also link you to the most useful free software for
your computer, including software for Voice Chat and a free
alternative to Microsoft Office.
All this information comes bundled together, immediately downloadable
for
[DEL: just US$49.99 :DEL] !
Limited Time Offer: I am so sure this information will save you time,
money and frustration that I am willing to let the "How to Buy a
Computer" video, with all 4 bonus guides go for only US$17.95! That's
right, that's a savings of US$32.00!
This is a ridiculously low price considering the immediate benefits
that will come to you. It would take you hours and hours to learn what
I have compiled into a one hour "everything you need to know" session.
It won't last long though, so take advantage of this special price
while it's available!

I would higly recommend this video to anyone looking to buy a
computer. The explainations were very easy to understand for someone
who has limited computer knowlege... like me! It was very well
organized and easy to understand (the analogies were very helpful).
I also found the buyer's guide to be very helpful. Now I feel better
equipped to make a decision on my next computer by myself.
